The 5-hour match is set to launch at 2PM EST on Saturday the 24th of October and will feature over 240 players and will be streamed live with commentary at www.twitch.tv/survivetheark - be sure to tune in as the best SotF players in the world compete for a ton of prizes, worth $75,000, and get involved with the process by influencing the outcome of the game with your Evolution Event votes! (The server will open to contestants, for Tribe setup, at 12pm EST.)

Qualified Players

After today’s two Loser Bracket Games, these are the open contestants who’ve made it all the way to the Championship:

Loser Bracket Qualified Players

Just a reminder that teams are not locked for the Finale -- during the Finale pre-match lobby, qualified players will be granted the opportunity and plenty of time to swap or combine Tribes with others who are also playing in the Finale. Keep in mind that the tribe maximum is set to 6 PLAYERS and alliances will not be tolerated during the event, those found to be forming alliances during battle will find themselves escorted off the ARK by security ;).

All qualified Survivors should be on the lookout for a special friends request and an invite to a private Steam Group. It’s very critical you accept both the friend request and the group invite as it’ll be a place where we’ll be able to directly inform you about anything regarding the Tournament. Those will come out from tonight and tomorrow. If you do not receive one by Thursday Evening please do not hesitate to contact Wildcard Jat and he will sort that out for you.

What’s up for grabs!

Survivors will be competing not only for this fantastic trophy with their names embedded onto the plaque, pride, and bragging rights, but also a whole heap worth of goodies from our fantastic sponsors! Special thanks to NVIDIA, Logitech, CyberPower PC and special thanks to Nitrado for hooking us up with a beast machine to host the server on!

ARK - Survival of the Fittest: The Last Stand Results & Bonus Round

Hey Survivors,

Phew... that was a ride! ‘The Last Stand’ Tournament ended today in a blistering 5-hour marathon of poo-throwing monkeys, questionable referee decisions, nerf-batted bosses, numerous failed box-men attempts (THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE!), and a partridge in a pear tree.

Before we discuss our mistaken referee call, let it be written that when the dust settled and the last dino fell violently to the ground in a series of grenade explosions, Tribe ‘Terra Nova’ (fun TV show btw) was left standing above all others. Here are the winners of ‘The Last Stand’, and congratulations to them and all the participants for fighting tooth and nail to survive!

Now about that referee call: Approximately midway through the match, one of our GMs was notified that there was someone hiding on top of the dragon. This in itself isn’t an exploit or glitch, but the GM was informed that this individual could not be damaged. The GM tried to damage the clever player -- appropriately-named ‘Brainiac’ of the venerable ‘Goon Squad’ Tribe -- and seemingly also thought Brainiac could not be damaged. Thus the GM, after conferring with the devs, decided to teleport Brainiac off of the Dragon, believing it to be an “embedded collision” glitch that renders a player invincible to any outside projectile.

Upon reviewing the records it appears now that the player COULD in fact take damage, and what had been thought to be invincibility was in fact just mild de-sync of animations that can occur when a player is on such a large moving object. Brainiac employed a novel tactic that was surprising! We made a real-time call based on the information we had available at the time, but in hindsight - it was the wrong call. So that we’re clear: Hiding on top of the Dragon, or any other creature, is not a glitch in Survival of the Fittest, should not have been grounds for the GM to move that player, and will not be so going forward.

‘The Last Stand’ results remain standing; as a live sporting event the referee’s call does not invalidate the entire 5 hour gameplay -- all the Tribes that participated played very long and hard for their victories.

However, we do want to address it - we made the wrong call and that ought to be dealt with. Furthermore, let’s be frank, those poo-flinging monkeys were devastating at such an early point in the game - we hadn’t seen them appear so early before, and weren't aware of how much they could hurt unguarded players. So with the referee’s call being mistaken, and so many excellent Survivors eliminated early via The Monkey Reign of Terror, we’re going to host one last Mini-Championship Round to see how events play out with improved balance and without GM mistakes. We thus present to you:

The ‘Bonus Round’ will be a 3-hour SotF match hosted next Sunday, November 1, from 2pm EST to 5pm EST, and will be livestreamed by our dearest caster, the most excellent BikeMan! All the Contestants and Streamers who competed in 'The Last Stand' Championship Finale game are invited into this high-value Mini-Championship, and the prizes will be as follows:

1st Place

$10,000 cash
In-Game Golden SH Custom Trophy with your names

2nd Place

$6,000 cash
In-Game Silver SH Custom Trophy with your names

3rd Place

$2,000 cash
In-Game Bronze SH Custom Trophy with your names

We can't go back in time and change the past (even with a souped-up DeLorean travelling at 88 miles an hour), but we can change the future -- and will do what we can to make it fun for those who played and those who watched. The “Last Stand Bonus Round” SotF build will be deployed on October 25, so Tribes will have a full week to practice without fear of last-minute balancing changes.

We will continue to iterate and refine SotF as a competitive experience, and we'll get better with our casting techniques, infrastructure, and how our GM’s interact with the game. We really appreciate everyone's support of ARK and SotF, and we plan to grow the mode along with players' interest in it.

We look forward to seeing the contestants from 'The Last Stand' Championship in next Sunday's Event to show us the truly epic gameplay and strategies that we know they're all capable of. And we’ll promise you this about the ‘Bonus Round’: among other things, you won't be viciously murdered by feces in your face, nor will GM's be crimping your ingenious strats! We love you Goon Squad!

All the best to ARK fans and SotF fans alike,

Wildcard Jat and the Studio Wildcard Team

ARK: Fear Evolved

This Wednesday on 28th of October the ARK will be undergoing a brief seasonal change where the air becomes cooler, the days shorter & the nights longer, the moon a certain shade of red, bats and other nasty creatures appearing above-ground, carvable pumpkins sprouting up, rumors of powerful undead beasts roaming the land -- and emerging from the mists, the mythical Dodorex makes its appearance at last astride an army of bloodthirsty zombie Dodos, with limited edition treats for those Survivors brave enough to take on the many tricks of ARK: Fear Evolved!

For the next week the ARK is undergoing a spooky seasonal change where the air is cooler, the days shorter and the nights longer, and a Blood-Moon shines brightly as bats and creepy-crawly creatures of the night appear above ground.

Survivors should take care when exploring the island as the mythical DodoRex stomps across the land with an army of blood-thirsty zombie dodos in tow, and a variety of re-animated Skelesaurs walk the lands.

For those brave enough to face their fears, there will be a number of new items to craft and collection including thatch-rich scarecrows, custom Jack-o-Lantern carvings, Skelesaur Costumes, Candy-Corn loot drops, Witch Hats, Masks and a Saddle for your spider! You’ll also be granted the opportunity to tame endlessly-rejuvenating Zomdodos, Bats, show off artifacts collected from your adventures in the dangerous caves and of course earn a brand new Steam Achievement!

Looking to cram your friends full of sugary multicoloured, recycled wax-candies shaped like triangles? Keep an eye out for our Candy-Corn supply crates, which we've stuffed full of ARK free-game codes. Once you get one, you can gift it to apologize to your friend for force-feeding them terrible candies that nobody wants.

We’re also running a little Fear: Evolved contest! The first survivor to post a video of them killing the DodoRex on an Official PvP Server will win a 100$ Steam Wallet Giftcode! (they can be working with other Players/Tribe of course, but we'll only have one code to send to the player who actually posts the video). Here is where you’ll want to submit.

Wishing all you Survivors a Happy Halloween!

SotF Last Stand Championship: Bonus Results & Final Round Announcement!

SotF Last Stand Championship: Bonus Results & Final Round Announcement!

During the Bonus Round today, there was some speculation about the tribe "Outlaws", specifically the member "Kamikaze Sensei.", and potential 3rd party program use.

Over the course of the tournament, we had several members of staff observing this player and their tribe, recording video footage from several angles, and overall observing gameplay and team movements.

We have composed a video of the most convincing elements of our evidence, which are available for review here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eopMquWRTCM

The player has advertised his services as a competitive multiplayer hacker on similar products: http://imgur.com/a/oSKmO

After thoroughly reviewing the footage as well as the gameplay logs and information provided by other players in the game, it is the determination of our GMs and Administrative staff that this evidence of “ESP” usage by ‘Team Outlaws’ Tribe member justifies eliminating Team Outlaws from their 3rd place winners positions in both this tournament match, and in previous The Last Stand Finale Match, where they had come in 2nd place.

As we have said many times, use of third party programs or in-game exploits that leverage an advantage over other teams are grounds for disqualification from these competitive Tournaments and banning from our Official Server Network. As such, Team Outlaws will no longer be allowed to attend further tournaments, and have forfeited their prizes in both games. The teams beneath them in standing will be awarded their prizes and so forth (the team in fourth place in The Last Stand tournament will be awarded third place, etc).

The rankings now sit at:

SoTF: The Last Stand

SoTF: The Last Stand - Bonus Round

While it is always going to be a tense subject, we invite people to review the footage so that there isn't a black-box of accusations in this regard. We always make these calls with much care and deliberation -- we also have made sure that multiple people have seen the footage and given us their feedback before coming to any final decision ourselves, so know that this isn’t just one judge having the final say. We contacted the offending player, and to date have received no video or viable explanations that would make these gameplay actions possible without use of cheat programs.

In the future, not only will we have improved client and server-side anti-cheat measures in place (we've got VAC active with banhammers incoming, and are looking to partner up on server and client-side anti-cheat.), but that players who participate will understand that we are watching carefully, recording footage, and keeping a close eye on what goes on. Furthermore in subsequent Tournaments, indications of cheat usage will involve an immediate summary ban from the session, not an after-the-fact review.

Thank you all for your continued support, and we again extend our congratulations to the winning teams, who played excellently and ferociously!

The Last Stand: Final Round

Due to the events of this round, we are again going to be hosting one more final round for, yes, an ADDITIONAL prize pool! This will take place on Saturday the 7th of November from 1PM EST to 4:30PM EST. This will be a BikeMan-shoutcasted 3.5 Hour SotF Match and all ~240 survivors who took part in the Last Stand Finale or Bonus Round are invited to play again! This special round will feature the following prizes for the top tribes;

1st Place

$12,000 cash
In-Game Golden Custom Trophy with your names

2nd Place

$6,000 cash
In-Game Silver Custom Trophy with your names

3rd Place

$2,400 cash
In-Game Bronze Custom Trophy with your names

Finally, we want to say thank you for everyone’s participation in Survival of the Fittest -- both the players themselves, and also the viewers of these dynamic competitive matches. It’s not always a straight line to keep these high-stakes games free of controversy -- but we give it our best shot, continually improve, and have fun playing the ultimate competitive survival simulator along everyone! We hope to see all the badass contestants back-in-action next Saturday for another high-pressure bout of bloody dino carnage, and until then, Keep on Surviving!

Wildcard Jat and the ARK Survival Evolved Team

P.S. Molnman of Tribe BUMBI sent us this video of a super cool 1v5 kill spree he got in recent SotF game, which we had to share because it’s so impressive -- nice gaming Molnman! :)

While greater in size than most large predators, the Giganotosaurus is sometimes less dangerous when encountered in the wild, due to its sluggish speed. Even still, getting trapped or chased down by a Giganotosaurus often means certain death for nearly any creature.

Taming a Giganotosaurus is a dangerous prospect. Its rage reaction, even when tamed, can sometimes cause it to briefly turn on members of its own tribe. Indeed it may even throw off its rider if it has been sufficiently angered! And yet, the sheer size and immense power that the Giganotosaurus possesses means that some factions endeavor to tame it as a fear-inducing "capital" beast of war -- even at great risk!

Fighting a Giganotosaurus directly is always a bad idea, as its rage rapidly grows with every hit it takes. With this rage, it builds increasing reserves of energy to use, making its iron-jawed bites progressively more deadly and enhancing its stamina.

Like typical Anglerfish, the Melanocetus primarily uses its bioluminescent light pods to attract smaller fish and trick them into coming close enough for it to consume the prey. This often makes wild Melanocetus itself relatively easy to spot among the briny depths. Whether its size is caused by adaptation to the island's other inhabitants, or by cross-breeding with another larger species, Melanocetus Anglerpescum is one of the largest form of Anglerfish. Additionally, a tamed Anglerfish can use the natural light at the end of its stalks to illuminate the depths for safe exploration, and the luminescent nodules can be harvested to create long-lasting fuel and organic light emplacements for surface homes, too.

The Kairuku Waitaki, on the other hand, is an amazingly docile and friendly creature. Kairuku are useless in a fight, but they nonetheless are tamed for their cuteness and friendly nature, kind of like a pet, and the incidentally cool fact that their bodies run extremely hot. Survival Tip! Standing near Kairuku can help keep a survivor warm through long, harsh nights on the icebergs.

The Kairuku’s only defensive trait: Suspended in Kairuku’s blubber are small, dense particles that act as a light form of armor. Adding to Kairuku's problems, a clever survivor discovered that refining Kairuku blubber can yield a natural form of the same polymer used in advanced tribes' manufacturing processes. This has caused many tribes to hunt Kairuku extensively, especially the blubber-rich infants, a practice colloquially known as "Kairu Clubbing."

Furthermore, in this update, the new “Tribal Warfare Alliance” system allows Tribes to formally declare war against each other for specific mutually agreed-upon timeframes, encouraging large-scale set player-vs-player confrontations rather than offline raiding! Survivors will also find a realistic Creature "Fur" pass, primitive siege Catapult and a modern-tier Gatling Gun Turret to defend their homes with!

Midweek Madness!

For those of you who have yet to visit the island, you can start your epic adventure with ARK: Survival Evolved during our limited-time sale through now until the 16th of November on Steam for $19.99! That’s a 33% discount off the regular game!

While the Compsognathus is one of the of the smallest predators on the island, ARK Survivors should pay close attention to its behavior, movements, and numbers. Alone, Compys are unafraid of humans and are neither dangerous nor aggressive which makes it an ideal pet that is curious and attentive to human endeavors and their tools. In larger packs, however, the diminutive little creature remembers its carnivorous nature.

When a group of Compsognathus congregate, they intuitively transform into an aggressive, carnivorous pack. Their distress call carries quite far, rapidly alerting the tribe and its pets to danger more efficiently, which also increases the likelihood of a few Compys quickly forming into a 'Compy Gang.’

ARK v224 also adds a powerful high-tech Rocket Turret, homing Sea Mines to aid in water defense, Wall Lamps to light up your ARK home in an aesthetically pleasing manner, persistent Tribe Logs for players to track and monitor their Tribe’s activities and events when they were offline, and a new system for Survivors to design and craft their own unique food and drink recipes -- so “Bob’s Bronto Burgers” can now open up for business!

Despite being a carnivore, Oviraptor’s primary source of food is eggs, which it steals from nests. Unlike any other creature, Oviraptor seems to be able to surreptitiously steal these eggs usually without attracting the attention of an irate mother. In an incredible feat of natural selection, Oviraptor seems to emit a chemical pheromone that affects many creatures as an aphrodisiac. Mated creatures are much more likely to… “create” new fertilized eggs while Oviraptor is around, which allows the Oviraptor to go about its business unperturbed. They also make quite adorable sounds, so many children simply like to keep them as rather strange companions.

ARK v226 also adds the Ghillie Suit armor set for camouflaged stealth against Dinos and Survivors, the Industrial Oven which enables cooking food on a large scale for an entire Tribe’s army, a Table furniture item upon which small structures can be placed, a Modern Bunk-Bed for faster respawning, plus various optimizations and balancing improvements!

Also ARK’s special holiday sale is coming to a close, so if you haven’t picked up the game yet, you’ve still got time to head to the Steam Autumn Sale where ARK: Survival Evolved is discounted at 40% off!
